I had just visited a friend in Boston for business and missed the train back to New York. I was walking around the pubs and was trying to kill some time before deciding what to do.
I walked into a pub and took out my book to read. I probably looked a bit like some intellectual and I was sipping on a vodka cocktail as I was sitting at a corner of the busy pub.
There were four hot Asian Americans sitting next to me. One of them was talking about Blackadder. “No,” One of them says, “It’s the funniest show ever!”
I turned around.
“Are you talking about Blackadder?” I asked.
“Yeah.” The girl says. She’s pretty and seemed like a bit of a rock chick. Looked like Avril Lavigne with her peroxide blonde hair.
“I love Blackadder. How the hell do you know about it? You’re American!’
“My mom watches it – she’s got all the scripts and everything.”
“Fucking cool.” I turned to the group, to the chick who Avril was originally talking to. “Blackadder,” I continued, “is a comedy series from the 90′s – it’s written by Richard Curtis, the guy who wrote Four Weddings and a Funeral.”
“Oh,” She said. She had no idea.
“Yeah. It’s brilliant, but the first series was a bit crap. Blackadder’s character was a bit of a clown, but he turns into the most acerbic, sarcastic bastard in the second series. He’s brilliant.” Avril perks up.
“That’s exactly what I was going to say!” She says, brightly.
I had made the perfect opening! Buck my life!
( To be continued…..)
